MISCARRIAGE

We would like to begin by expressing our sorrow to you at this time
and hope that this website can offer you some information about
Scottish Care and Information on Miscarriage, which may be of value to
you over the coming months.

The experience of miscarriage is unique to each person and for some
it may be a time of sadness and overwhelming feelings of loss and
grief. SCIM is a charity managed by people in Scotland who have
themselves, suffered miscarriage. Our experiences encompass early and
late loss, infertility and in some cases childlessness. May we at this
difficult time offer you our support and understanding. Please remember
that you are not alone and that we would be happy to hear from you and
offer our help in any way possible.

With every good wish & regards,
The members of Scottish Care and Information on Miscarriage

MISCARRIAGE FEELINGS:  Many families experience a variety of emotions following loss including:

SADNESS - I have just lost my baby.
ANGER - Why did this happen to me?
GUILT - Did I do something wrong?
FEAR - Will this happen again?

At Scottish Care and Information on Miscarriage we offer a range of
support services including advice on miscarriage, future pregnancies
and fertility awareness. Our experience in working with families, who
have suffered through miscarriage, shows that the following may be
beneficial. You are free to choose which services would be of most help
to you.

MISCARRIAGE COUNSELLING- There are many different
types of counselling. At SCIM our counsellors work in a Person-Centred
way. This approach has been used for over 50 years and was founded by
Carl Rogers. The Person-Centred Approach is based on the idea that
every person has within themselves the resources for self
understanding, at SCIM our counsellors can help you to develop these
resources at our Glasgow base. Counselling can provide a safe
supportive relationship where difficulties can be sensitively explored.
Our counselling service is used by individual male or female clients and couples.

MISCARRIAGE TELEPHONE SUPPORT- It may be more suitable for you to talk to
someone on the phone, then simply contact us and we will offer you an
appointment with a trained Advice Practitioner. We may also be able to
arrange for you to speak to someone in your area through our “Telephone
Support Network” this includes areas throughout Scotland.

MISCARRIAGE INFORMATION- As a registered training centre we
provide advice and guidance and information on miscarriage and related
issues. Including basic medical information, stress management and  pre-pregnancy advice. However requests
regarding specific medical advice relating to miscarriage are referred
to a trained medical practitioner.

MISCARRIAGE AFTERCARE - Families who have used our
counselling service may also wish to use
our stress management programme. This service provides individual
support in practical advice on dealing with stress/anxiety. This is
offered along side our counselling service.

Each year we receive an increased amount of requests for support
from women and families throughout Scotland. In response to the needs
of the women and families who have contacted us we have developed an
additional service which many women have found to be benefical both
following their loss and also moving on to a further pregnancy. This
service includes advice on fertility awareness, relaxation, stress
management, pre-pregnancy care and support throughout a future
pregnancy. Any client wishing to use this service in Scotland can access
this additional support.

MISCARRIAGE COUNSELLING APPOINTMENTS: Appointments for the above services can be arranged by contacting
our reception Mon-Fri. between 9.30 to 4.30.
